I wish I had a crystal ball to show me the future clearly. Lacking one, I believe that analyzing the past and the speed of recent social and technological changes makes it possible to predict certain general aspects of the future. My goal is to immerse myself in all the clutter of events happening simultaneously today, to sort them out, understand them, and try to anticipate the new role of the Nation-State in the age of Artificial Intelligence.
Attempting to predict the future of society regarding the technological paradigm shift we are currently experiencing may not only seem frivolous but also impossible. However, throughout this book, I will try to show you with information that it is possible, at least, to get closer to probable future events; to imagine them, and in many cases, to help build them due to our cognitive abilities. Some of the points highlighted in the following pages will be verified in the near future, while other issues we may not experience in our lifetime. For these, new generations will be able to judge what has been developed here and, if necessary, work on these issues if we did not resolve them first.
In this book, I aim to convey a critical view of the problems we, as a society, are about to face and where this will lead us culturally, socially, economically, and technologically, defining the events that will mark a before and after in the order we know today. I will be satisfied if I can effectively convey to you how states will function and our relationship with the labor market in a world dominated by Artificial Intelligence. However, if there is one thing we must be clear about from the beginning, it is that Artificial Intelligence is not the goal but the tool.
